Pre-school Curriculum
In the Pre-school, we believe that learning during the early years of life is critical for the development of the whole child.
Our inquiry-based programme reflects the interest of the children and encourages them to take responsibility for their own learning. Play-based provocations reflect what we know about how children learn by promoting their active involvement, and taking responsibility for their own learning.

Pre-school Curriculum
Te Whāriki and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) are at the core of our curriculum. Language, Mathematics, Science, Structured Literacy, Technology and the Arts are woven into our everyday planned provocations and Units of Inquiry.

Our Environment
As a Reggio Emilia inspired pre-school, we value the environment as the third teacher. Play based provocations encourage the children to take responsibility for their own learning through active exploration. In addition to our dedicated classrooms and outdoor spaces, we utilise the wider school facilities to support learning.

Timetabled Specialist Programme
Our Timetabled Specialist Programme includes Visual Art, Music and Dance, Library, Performing Arts, Spanish, Buddies, Coding and Playball. Swimming lessons are also offered to students 4 years of age and older.

Pastoral Care & Wellbeing
Being part of the Selwyn House School community means the children in the Pre-school have the opportunity to be exposed to real school experiences, such as assemblies, morning teas and having a 'Buddy' from The Middle School.
Well-being is a core focus in the Pre-school, children participate in yoga, mindful breathing, Smiling Minds activities and The Friendology Programme.
