Selwyn House Year 6 girl, Samantha Lascelles has been recognised as the top female achiever for her age group at the Sumner Surf Lifesaving awards last month. Her season highlights were keeping the Canterbury and South Island Champion titles for 2016 – 2017.
Samantha won the ASB Christchurch 9-10 year old 2km race in terrible conditions on Sunday 4 June. It was a close race with two of her club rivals right on her heels.
Recently she competed in the Canterbury Primary XC non-championship 2km cross country race. This was held in conjunction with the NZ Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships. Samantha won her age group.
In early June Samantha was nominated for selection consideration into the New Zealand Pacific Schools’ Athletics Team. This event will be held in Australia in December and if successful she will be competing in the 800m race.
