Selwyn House – Winners of the Girls’ Years 7 and 8 A-Grade Team Chess Competition

Congratulations to Selwyn House – Winners of the Girls’ Years 7 and 8 A-Grade Team Chess Competition. Selwyn House was thrilled to have three teams enter – all participated with great team spirit and showed their love of the game.

This competition attracted nearly 100 girls from schools in Christchurch and Canterbury and is organised by The Inter-School Chess Charitable Trust Board. The Trust was established to foster chess in schools, particularly in Christchurch and the wider Canterbury area.

“Chess has long been recognised as a game that fosters strategic thinking, logical planning and analytical skills. I am very proud of all the girls and how they represented not only themselves but Selwyn House today,” said Pauline Dann, the teacher in charge of chess.

Jessica Rains is the Chess Tutor and an accomplished chess player in her own right. Our thanks to Jessica for her work with all of the girls.
